Floorwarmers Solutions

All electric underfloor heating systems require adequate underfloor heating insulation beneath the screed or directly beneath the heating cables.

Assuming that adequate underfloor heating insulation is fitted below the screed our under tile heating cables or under tile heating kits can be installed directly on top of the screed and then tiled or embeded within a two part latex levelling compound. If you are unsure of existing insulative properties it will be necessary to fit an insulated tile backing board prior to installation of the heating system. Minimum required insulation thickness is 6mm we recommend Marmox® or Blueboard insulation boards for this purpose.
Tiled floor finish on to timber / plywood base
All timber floors whether floor boards, chipboard or plywood must be assessed confirm structural integrity and suitability for tiling prior to installation of electric under floor heating. Floor boards will always require provision of insulated tile backing boards prior to heating being installed. Mats and cables can be fitted directly to ply-wood and moisture proof chipboard provided the floor is treated with a suitable priming solution. Design will vary from 100w/m² to 150w/m² dependant upon floor base specification. contact us to discuss.
As a general rule for both of the above scenarios under tile cables offer a far more flexible heating solution in terms of area coverage and designed watts per m². Under tile mats provide a quick solution for areas of regular shape.
All under floor heating installations must be connected via an RCD (earth trip) protected circuit. All underfloor heating applications in bathrooms, wet rooms and shower rooms must use heating cables with an earth screen.
Cables / mats with twin conductors are considered easier to install than single wire alternatives.
In screed cables.
In screed systems provide a highly efficient electric under floor heating solution for new build or areas where a new floor is being fitted. Heating cables are installed directly above foil faced insulation below a 65mm screed. Design perameters require output of between 130w/m² and 200w/m² dependant upon room / construction type.
Laminate / Wood Floors underfloor heating
Laminate and engineered Wood floor can provide a highly effective heating medium with ThermoLAM or Carbon Heating film heating systems. Use with 6mm or 12mm Depron® insulation directly beneath the heating foil. Systems of varying outputs and sizes can be selected to provide full or secondary heating for most areas of your house. Carbon film heating systems are not suitable for use in Bathrooms as they do not employ an earth screen.
Under floor Heating beneath Vinyl, Amtico & Karndean floor coverings
Heating beneath Vinyl will require special consideration due to the maximum floor temperature limits permissible and the need to provide a solid surface on which to bond the flooring. The subfloor must be well insulated beneath the screed or by using a reinforced insulated tile backing board such as Marmox. Heating cables (TP)are then attached to the surface prior to applying two applications of a Latex floor smoothing compound. First application (4mm) to embed the heating cables folowed by a second layer (3mm)to put distance between the heating cables and the vinyl to allow heat to disipate across the floor. Max floor temperature not to exceed 28degree C.
Carpets with underfloor heating
Carpeted floors can provide challenge for standard underfloor heating systems but the new crystalline ribbon heating system from Primary Heat are purpose made for this application. The ribbon mat systems are installed directly on to a Depron insulation material prior to laying the carpet with a low tog (<0.75) underlay.
